Surfing
Qamea Resort & Spa offers is your unrivalled luxury surf resort in Fiji. We offer you undiscovered, un-crowded and untapped surf breaks in North Fiji. Between November and April, you can now have the option to surf the secluded and untapped breaks of North Fiji while staying at Qamea Resort & Spa. Please note, we do not recommend surfing outside of this timeframe as the trade winds shift and the waves are then usually not suitable for surfing. It is however totally up to the guest.
A fifteen minute boat ride from the resort will find you on the outer reefs that receive any swell from the South. The right hander, named Maqai, is the most consistent wave in this set of reef passes. This wave offers three sections. Experienced surfers can work their way up the reef and find a hollow barrel before working a rippable face and mellower barrel section through to the mid part of the wave. The end section is fun for intermediate surfers.
Surf Sites
In the months of November to April, the reefs near Qamea Resort & Spa become a surfer’s paradise.
During this time the wind is normally light and variable meaning that it’s the best time of year for chest-high to overhead waves with occasional bigger days. Crowds are very thin and the water is warm.
There are three main breaks located fifteen minutes by boat. A long right is the premier break. It starts as a grinding barrel, turns into a rippable face and ends with a very mellow section before petering into deep water, making this the ideal spot for every ability and style of surfing.
Other breaks along the coast all have their day given suitable conditions. Beginners may even enjoy some soft waves that are ideal for getting started.
Please note: To bring your surfboards to Qamea, you will need to catch a scenic flight from Nadi to Taveuni with Fiji Airways and they do offer the service to take your surfboards, however please do so at your own risk. They can’t guarantee that your surfboard will fit on the small aircraft and you must take it at your own risk. We do have a range of surfboards available for hire at the Resort, in the instance that your board can’t make it on the first flight.
