FAQs
How do you get to Qamea?
You will fly into Fiji’s international gateway city of Nadi. There are convenient non-stop flights to Nadi from Australia (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne), New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch), United States (Los Angeles, Honolulu), Hong Kong, Singapore and from several neighbouring island nations (Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa, and Kiribati). To reach Qamea from Nadi, you would then jump on a convenient connecting flight on either Fiji Link (the domestic subsidiary of Fiji Airways), or on Island Hoppers. Upon your arrival in Taveuni you will be greeted by one of our hotel staff who will escort you by private car to our transfer boat for the crossing to our island. The boat crossing to our island resort takes 8 minutes. Our reservation staff are happy to make all your arrangements for your domestic transfers from Nadi to our resort.
Is the water safe to drink?
Our water on Qamea is safe to drink, the staff and our guests drink it every day. Upon arrival for our guests comfort we provide a Qamea water bottle which is filled with filtered water and is available for refills anytime during your stay at our water cooler located in our restaurant. We do also have Fiji Water for sale in our bar.
Is there a dress code?
We are a casual resort and there is no dress code at Qamea. You are welcome to wear anything from a sarong, shorts and a t-shirt or a dress and heels to dinner – as long as you feel comfortable.
What power does the resort use?
Fiji and the resort run on 220 volts, the same as Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Most cameras and laptop computers are multi voltage, and run on both 110 and 220 volts. We do have electrical adapters available for sale in the boutique.
Do I need to schedule activities/ spa treatments in advance?
We offer a great variety of activities at the resort, including snorkeling, trekking, scuba diving, fishing, and tours through the local villages. There is no need to pre book any activities as you will be able to sign up for these upon arrival after checking the activities schedule. We carry some basic fishing equipment and offer fishing trips to select no-diving zones near the island – for more information please contact us.
Treatments in our award-winning spa can be booked upon arrival; or prior to arrival should you wish to luxuriate in our spa within the first 24 hours of arrival at the resort.
Do you have internet access available?
We offer free wireless internet in our restaurant and dining room at a slow data speed. For those that require high speed internet access, this is also available for a small fee. Please note, our internet is via satellite and hence the cost for high speed internet.
How do I pay for things at the resort?
All transactions on the resort are cashless. All tours and activities, spa treatments, boutique purchases and food and beverages are charged back to your room and then paid for upon checkout. We accept cash (USD, CAD, JPN, AUD, NZD, EUR), American Express, Visa and MasterCard. Please note for all foreign notes or non-Fiji dollars, notes cannot have marks, tears or be worn. Please note there is a 3% credit card fee for all Visa and MasterCard transactions and a 4% credit card fee for all American Express transactions. Please also note all charges on the resort will be subject to a 9% Value Added Tax, a 10% Hotel Turnover Tax and a 6% Environmental Levy. The Fiji Government levies these taxes so unfortunately these charges are beyond our control.
Are there any poisonous insects on Qamea Island?
There are no poisonous insects on Qamea. The island of Qamea is a natural tropical island and there will be times when you may see insects around the property. We have a professional pest control program in place, however we do recommend that you use insect repellant at night, which is available for sale at the boutique.
Do we need to tip?
Tipping is not part of Fijian culture, particularly on outer islands such as Qamea. We respectfully request that you refrain from tipping any of our staff during your stay with us. Our staff are not permitted to accept individual tips and we would appreciate your assistance with preserving this tradition. If at the end of your stay you would like to make a contribution to the staff Christmas Fund, you can do so at the time you check out.
